South Apopka annexation study finds path forward, but substantial costs remain
A feasibility study finds that annexing South Apopka is legally and physically achievable, but estimates approximately $30.5 million in capital needs for police, fire, and public services. The City Commission will discuss the report on October 7 and consider a procedural step needed to keep a possible March 2027 referendum on track.

Marriott hotel moves closer to construction at Floridian Town Center
The Apopka City Commission unanimously approved the major development plan for a four-story Fairfield Inn and TownePlace Suites hotel at Floridian Town Center. After years of legal battles, Southwick Commons opens in Apopka
Southwick Commons has opened 192 affordable apartments in Apopka after years of litigation and permitting disputes with the City. Rents at the community begin at approximately $1,103 for one-bedroom units, $1,440 for two-bedroom units, and $1,647 for three-bedroom units.

Apopka CRA adopts $7.8 million budget, redirects money to park and sidewalks
The Apopka CRA approved a nearly $7.85 million FY2027 budget, including about $6.13 million in reserves and carryover funds. The board also redirected $299,000 toward Alonzo Williams Park, advanced a Duke Energy property purchase, and tabled a proposed down-payment assistance program.
