Orange County Public Schools receives $3,500 grant from beverage industry to improve recycling in high schools

The funds will go towards the installation of “bottles only” recycling bins at several high school cafeterias across OCPS, scaling to all 22 high schools to reach 61,000 students.

The culinary and restaurant management stars of tomorrow took center stage this weekend, with the event hosted by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

The Geode Sundae: Bruleed bananas with scoops of black sesame, ube, and coffee chocolate ice cream, with bada bing cherry coulis and red miso caramel. Finished with almond white chocolate drizzle, candied coconut, and a cloud of spiced cream was a winner for the Wekiva High Culinary Team.

Wekiva High wins three awards at Annual Hospitality Competition
The events, sponsored by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Educational Foundation, brought together 400 students from over 40 Florida high schools competing in Culinary, Management, Edible Centerpiece, and Waiter’s Relay events.
In 2026, the Wekiva High School Marching Band will participate in the Allstate Sugar Bowl festivities, including a Mardi Gras-style parade with floats, bands, and a football game.
Breaking News: OCPS closes schools for Wednesday and Thursday
The closure is due to the projected impacts of the hurricane in Orange County, and some schools will be used as shelters. We will continue to update you as we receive additional information. School opening Friday will be determined based on the impact of the storm.
The Kelly Park School and three others in the Apopka area received "A" grades from the Florida Department of Education.
Orange County Public Schools earns an “A”
Three Apopka schools (Kelly Park, Wolf Lake Elementary, and Wolf Lake Middle) received "A" grades, as did Zellwood Elementary. Apopka High School received a "B" grade, while Wekiva High received a "C".

The girls earned an overall 3.8 GPA as a team. Midfielder Emma Camacho's solid play did not deter her from her studies. She not only led her team but is also Apopka High School’s Valedictorian. She will attend Cornell University this fall. Her weighted GPA was 5.688.
