Urgent appeal for Wekiva Coach Williams: Community uniting to fund medical care

Posted
Markeith Williams, a coach at Wekiva High School and father of two, suffered a stroke on December 29th while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

In a heartfelt plea, Beverly Gadsen, Williams' sister, is seeking support from friends, family, and the community in the wake of the tragic event that has befallen her brother.

The gravity of the situation became apparent when he was found unconscious, prompting immediate transportation to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the initial facility lacked the specialized neurological emergency care crucial in the critical hours post-stroke.

Undeterred, Gadsen and her family have tirelessly reached out to the US Embassy to facilitate Williams' transfer to a more suitable facility. While the current hospital is an improvement, it still falls short in providing the intensive care essential for his survival. Williams urgently requires critical emergency neurological care, prompting a collective effort to airlift him back to the United States.

The immediate objectives set by the Williams family include stabilizing him within the week, securing funds for medical expenses, an emergency flight, and arranging his prompt return to a top-notch US facility catering to his specific needs.

In addition to the primary goal, any surplus funds raised will contribute to covering Williams' emergency medical needs, rehabilitation, and potential future care. The family humbly requests prayers, donations, and support, emphasizing that no contribution is too small.

"We ask for your prayers, donations, and support in advance," said Gadsen. "No donation is too small! Thank you to everyone, and we ask that you please share this information."

Melissa Byrd, the District 7 Orange County School Board member, was one who shared on her Facebook page.

"I can not say enough kind words about Coach Williams," Byrd said. "He is truly a wonderful person who dearly loves his players and encourages and fights for equity for his team. He teaches his players what it means to care about each other and how to be a family. We pray for his recovery and hope he can come home soon."
