Wednesday will be the busiest day at City Hall, with the Development Review Committee meeting in the morning, followed by a City Commission workshop and regular meeting that evening. Tuesday brings code enforcement hearings, a neighborhood meeting with Mayor Nick Nesta and a climbing opportunity at Camp Wewa.

Here is a look at what is ahead for Oct. 18–24.

Tuesday, Oct. 20: Code enforcement hearings

Apopka’s code enforcement hearing begins at 1:30 p.m. in the City Hall chambers. The agenda lists two parking cases, 13 cases under the combined municipal and land development codes section, and 15 entries under final orders.

Properties on the agenda include addresses along Marvin C. Zanders Avenue, West Magnolia Street, North Lakeville Road, Lake McCoy Drive and other city streets. The agenda identifies case numbers and locations but does not describe the alleged violations, so the nature and status of individual cases will be addressed during the proceedings.

The next hearing date listed on the agenda is Dec. 15.

Tuesday, Oct. 20: Climb Club at Camp Wewa

Camp Wewa’s fall Climb Club is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at its outdoor climbing tower, 221 S. Binion Road. The program offers both new and experienced climbers a chance to tackle the 40-foot tower.

Participants must be at least 9 years old and meet the listed weight requirements of 25 to 275 pounds. The fee is $2 per drop-in session, and online registration and a waiver are required.

Tuesday, Oct. 20: Bronson Peak community meeting

Mayor Nick Nesta is scheduled to attend a Bronson Peak community meeting at 6 p.m. at the neighborhood clubhouse, 1574 Pinecliff Drive. The city’s calendar confirms his attendance but does not list specific discussion topics.

Wednesday, Oct. 21: Warehouse, car wash and subdivision plans

The Development Review Committee meets at 9 a.m. in the City Hall Commission Chambers, with three development proposals on its agenda.

A proposed 30,000-square-foot warehouse at 3716 Hogshead Road returns for a third submission of its major development plan. Laurel Bodega LLC is the owner, with DSE Engineering representing the application.

The committee will also review the first submission of a construction site plan for Phase 1 of Lux Car Wash. The proposal involves properties at 1752, 1774, 1782 and 1788 Rock Springs Road, with Sabal Hospitality Group Inc. listed as the owner.

Rounding out the agenda is a second submission of revised construction plans for Crossroads at Kelly Park Phase 3B. The application identifies the location as 0 Soapberry Avenue and Kelly Park Land Investments LLC as the owner. The agenda does not provide details about the proposed revisions.

Wednesday, Oct. 21: Attorney representation and impact fees

City commissioners will gather at 5 p.m. for a discussion workshop in the City Hall Commission Chambers. Two subjects are scheduled for the commission’s 30-minute discussion period: attorney representation options and impact fees and credits.

A separate 30-minute public comment period is also scheduled. The agenda provides the topic headings but does not identify specific proposals or recommended changes.

The workshop agenda also maintains a list of subjects for future discussions, including a public safety building, Camp Wewa, the comprehensive plan, software to track commission votes, utility infrastructure and a brownfields presentation. Those are listed as future topics, rather than the two subjects designated for Wednesday’s discussion.

Wednesday, Oct. 21: Saddlebrook Meadows and annexations

The regular City Commission meeting begins at 6 p.m., with a proposed 55-home neighborhood among the public hearing items.

Commissioners will consider the second reading of Ordinance 3156 for Saddlebrook Meadows at 3585 and 3603 Golden Gem Road. The request involves rezoning, a Kelly Park Interchange master plan and a major development plan. The agenda lists 55 single-family homes and a maximum density of five dwelling units per acre.

Three annexation ordinances are also scheduled for second reading. They involve approximately 5.40 acres at the northeast corner of Kelly Park and Effie roads; a roughly 1.59-acre property containing an industrial warehouse at 2525 Clarcona Road; and Southfork Drive from State Road 429 to its western terminus.

The consent agenda includes an amendment to a Florida Department of Environmental Protection grant agreement for a phosphorus removal demonstration project and a Clean Water State Revolving Fund planning, design and construction loan agreement. Commissioners will also consider contracts covering utility supplies, infrastructure repairs, generator maintenance, sewer equipment and computer equipment.

Proclamations recognizing Orange Lodge No. 36 and Florida City Week are scheduled, and the informational section includes a financial report covering the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025-26 through Aug. 31.

Residents wishing to speak during general public comment should submit a green intent-to-speak form before the meeting. Those addressing a public hearing item should submit a white form. The commission meeting and the preceding workshop are scheduled to be livestreamed on the City of Apopka’s YouTube channel.

Saturday, Oct. 24: Halloween in the Park

The week closes with Halloween in the Park from 10 a.m. to noon at Kit Land Nelson Park, 10 S. Forest Ave. The free family event will include trick-or-treating and Halloween activities.

Families are encouraged to arrive in costume and bring their own trick-or-treating bags. Additional information is available on the city’s Halloween event page.
