Marriott hotel moves closer to construction at Floridian Town Center
The Apopka City Commission unanimously approved the major development plan for a four-story Fairfield Inn and TownePlace Suites hotel at Floridian Town Center. The developer must complete the construction site plan review, while a related Fudge Road annexation will return for a final hearing on September 16.

Duke tariff tests Florida data center ratepayer protections

Apopka CRA adopts $7.8 million budget, redirects money to park and sidewalks
The Apopka CRA approved a nearly $7.85 million FY2027 budget, including about $6.13 million in reserves and carryover funds. The board also redirected $299,000 toward Alonzo Williams Park, advanced a Duke Energy property purchase, and tabled a proposed down-payment assistance program.

Florida remains the country’s most expensive state for homeowners insurance after average premiums increased 18% in 2025. Orange County and Apopka homeowners may pay less than the statewide average, but local costs vary considerably depending on the house, coverage level, insurer and method used to calculate the rate.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has submitted rewritten ballot language for Amendment 3 after a Leon County judge rejected the original title as resembling a political slogan. Judge orders Florida attorney general to rewrite Amendment 3 ballot language
A Florida circuit court judge has ordered Attorney General James Uthmeier to rewrite significant portions of Amendment 3’s ballot title and summary. Judge David Frank ruled that the property-tax measure’s title improperly promotes the amendment and that its summary makes misleading claims about taxpayer benefits and funding for public services.

Florida Sheriffs Association is ‘significantly concerned’ about Amendment 3
The Florida Sheriffs Association is raising concerns about Amendment 3, warning that the proposed property tax reduction could lead to longer law enforcement response times and fewer resources for local services.
