In 2004, Florida was hit by a series of FOUR major hurricanes in just six weeks. Charley kicked off the parade of powerhouses. It hit Cayo Costa on Aug. 13 as a Category 4, killing 17 people in Florida alone... then Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne followed.

Florida begins the long cleanup after Hurricane Milton savages the state
After Milton’s landfall in Siesta Key, the National Guard and other responders rescued 48 people as of 6:30 am. Search and rescue missions continued in 26 counties, with 125 active missions. About 20 urban search and rescue crews are conducting door-to-door checks.

The forecast is for 12 to 18 inches of rain along the populous Interstate 4 corridor. This area will be the bull’s-eye for flooding rainfall, just north of Tampa to Orlando and Daytona Beach.

Over 700,000 gallons of fuel are already in the state, and 12 million gallons were requested before the storm. Trucks are being placed along evacuation routes to assist, so while some stations have run out due to the overwhelming demand, the fuel is available as soon as it can be delivered.

Orange County under Tornado Watch; wind gusts up to 55 mph as Helene approaches Florida
Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for all of East Central Florida. Orange County is under a Tornado Watch until 8 p.m. this evening. Hurricane Helene has a very large wind field. Strong winds are the biggest concern in Central Florida, and in the coming hours, we will see conditions deteriorate.
