State House District 39 Representative Doug Bankson released the following statement about Hurricane Milton:
"Dear constituents,
We trust your storm preparations are well underway, and I encourage all to be over prepared versus being taken by surprise. The path of storms can be erratic, but we are staying connected with state emergency response to be prepared both for the storm and its aftermath.
I want to echo what our state CFO Jimmy Patronis is stating, be careful for those who prey on storm victims immediately following a storm, and do not sign anything that gives away your rights.
We have placed a request based upon the severity of the storm for an insurance village to be set up where people can go and meet with your insurers directly to get questions answered and in many cases immediate relief. These villages will be stationed where the greatest damage occurs, but we will seek to bring them as close to the victims as possible. If you become aware of any post storm abuses, please reach out and we can follow up with state oversight.
As for fuel supply, there are over 700,000 gallons of fuel already in state and a total of 12 million gallons requested in advance of the storm, with trucks being placed along evacuation routes to assist, so while some stations have run out due to the overwhelming demand, the fuel is available as soon as it can be delivered.
