AAA: Florida gas prices increase by three cents from last week

Posted

Florida gas prices have broken out of the range they've held within for the past several months.

Florida's state average has mostly hovered between $2.99 and $3.15 since early September. However, during the past two weeks, the state average exceeded $3.20 per gallon.

Sunday's state average of $3.22 per gallon is 3 cents per gallon more than a week ago, 11 cents more than a month ago, and 5 cents more than this time last year.

Oil prices are the main culprit of the jump at the pump. The price of U.S. crude rose to a 3-month high on January 10th, at $76.57 - which was a 4% increase from the week before. Crude oil increased another 2% the week of January 17th. However, last week, U.S. crude took a back step, settling at $74.66 per barrel - a 4% drop from the week before.

"Drivers will likely continue to see gas prices fluctuate through the week, but there doesn't currently appear to be any significant measure of relief on the way as of now," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

3 cents more per gallon this week, than last week? It is a lot higher than that, around here, if you ask me! The article says to pay with cash, because some gas stations charge more per gallon when you use a credit card. I'll second that, and here's why.....three different times, and three different gas stations here in Apopka, city and county, have charged me double what we filled in our tank. Each time we bought 40 dollars of gas, charged it on our card, and when I reviewed our account activity, the 40 dollars was charged twice! Then, I go tell them, and they do nothing, so I get nasty with them, and have to go through an act of Congress with our credit card company to get it removed. Beware, beware, if you charge your gas, call, and check your account activity immediately, as there are some shady gas stations around here, believe me! So far, I've gotten the double billing removed 3 different times, but I would be better off using cash around this area! Something is definitely going on around here, so just be aware! Just saying........
