LaVon Bracy Davis, the former State House Representative for District 40, has won the Florida Senate District 15 special election in a landslide over Republican Willie J. Montague.

According to unofficial results, Bracy Davis received 17,729 votes (72.56%), while Montague received 6,705 votes (27.44%).

Voter turnout was particularly low for the special election, with only 8.88% of eligible voters participating.

Bracy-Davis emerged from a competitive four-candidate field that included her brother, former state senator Randolph Bracy, former U.S. Representative Alan Grayson, and attorney Coretta Anthony-Smith. In the primary, held in June, Bracy Davis received 5,543 votes, or 42.96% of the total cast. Smith followed with 3,646 votes (28.31%), while Grayson drew 2,153 votes (16.72%). Bracy finished fourth with 1,548 votes (12.02%).

Senate District 15 includes portions of West Orange County and Apopka. It was previously represented by Sen. Geraldine Thompson, who died in February.

Despite the low turnout, Bracy-Davis overperformed in comparison to the 2024 Presidential election results. Approximately 61% of District 15 voters supported Kamala Harris, compared to 38% for Donald Trump, highlighting the district's Democratic lean.

This breaking news story will be updated in future editions of The Apopka Voice.
