From Staff Reports
LaVon Bracy Davis, the State House Representative for District 40, won the Democratic primary for the Florida Senate District 15 on Tuesday, emerging from a competitive four-candidate field that included her brother, former state senator Randolph Bracy, former U.S. Representative Alan Grayson, and attorney Coretta Anthony-Smith.
According to unofficial results, Bracy Davis received 5,543 votes, or 42.96% of the total cast. Smith followed with 3,646 votes (28.31%), while Grayson drew 2,153 votes (16.72%). Bracy finished fourth with 1,548 votes (12.02%).
Voter turnout was particularly low for the special election, with only 10.26% of eligible voters participating.
Senate District 15 includes portions of West Orange County and Apopka. It was previously represented by Sen. Geraldine Thompson, who died in February.
Bracy Davis will face Republican nominee Willie Montague in the September general election. Her victory positions her as the favorite because District 15 leans heavily Democratic, with more than twice as many registered Democrats (143,927) as Republicans (62,886). In recent statewide elections, approximately 61% of District 15 voters supported Kamala Harris, compared to 38% for Donald Trump, highlighting the district's Democratic lean.
