What’s at Stake

The special primary determines who will face unopposed Republican Willie Montague in the September 2nd general election.

The Bottom Line

The Democratic nominee is a prohibitive favorite to win Florida State Senate District 15 primarily because District 15 leans heavily Democratic, with more than twice as many registered Democrats (143,927) as Republicans (62,886). In recent statewide elections, approximately 61% of District 15 voters supported Kamala Harris, compared to 38% for Donald Trump, highlighting the district's Democratic lean.

Additionally, the late Senator Geraldine Thompson, a Democrat, previously held the seat unopposed in the 2022 general election, underscoring the lack of strong Republican competition. With no major-party opponent in the general election, the winner of the Democratic primary is virtually guaranteed the seat, making the primary the decisive contest.
