Week Two Summary
From Staff Reports
It seems the Apopka Blue Darters and Wekiva Mustangs are traveling in two different directions this season. Apopka won its second straight game, while Wekiva suffered its second straight loss.
Apopka 13, West Orange 0
The Apopka Blue Darters continued their defensive dominance last Friday, shutting out the West Orange Warriors 13-0. The Blue Darters broke open a scoreless game late in the third quarter when junior linebacker Rashad Watson blocked a Warrior punt, senior Travion Barnes recovered at the West Orange one-yard-line, and senior running back Quincy Frazier scored on a one-yard-run two plays later.
That was enough offense for Apopka to win its second straight game of the season, and extend its scoreless streak to eight quarters.
Frazier scored again in the fourth quarter which gave the Blue Darters a 13-0 lead.
The swarming Blue Darter defense had five sacks and allowed the Warriors under 100 yards of total offense. West Orange's only drive to go inside the Blue Darter 20-yard line ended on an interception by Kavion Nichols.
This Friday, the Blue Darters travel to Orlando to face the Dr. Phillips Panthers (1-1). Kickoff is at 7 pm. The Panthers defeated Timber Creek 33-7 last Friday.

Ocoee 14, Wekiva 13
The Wekiva Mustangs continued to struggle this season after taking a 13-0 halftime lead only to have the Ocoee Knights rally in the second half for a 14-13 loss.
Ocoee quarterback Jalen Joiner hit Jacquez Cooks for a 20-yard touchdown with just 33 seconds remaining in the game. Ocoee kicker Ivan Ruiz then hit the deciding extra point to give the Knights their only lead of the game.
Mustang sophomore quarterback Tyray Davis threw for 200 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He completed 13 of 25 passes. Those two scoring strikes in the first half were all of Wekiva's points. Davis hit Christopher Reed for a 10-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and Key’vell Cooper on a 25-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Junior Ocoee running back Charles Pierre Jr. ran for 80 yards on 16 carries and scored on an 8-yard TD run in the third quarter to cut Wekiva's lead to 13-7.
This Friday the Mustangs (0-2) face the West Orange Warriors (1-1) at Baptiste Orthodontics Stadium on the campus of Wekiva High School. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
