The Florida Department of Health in Orange County will host the Mammolink Mammography bus from 8 am to 4 pm on Thursday, October 29, at the Community Health Center, 225 E. Seventh St. in Apopka.
The Apopka stop is one of four Orange County locations scheduled during October as part of an effort to make free or low-cost breast cancer screening more accessible to women in the community.
To qualify for a free mammogram, women must be between the ages of 40 and 64, live in Florida, have a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level, and have no health insurance covering the cost of a clinical breast exam, mammogram, or Pap smear.
Women who want to determine whether they qualify can call 407-858-1421.
The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program offers screenings through the program, providing access to free or low-cost breast cancer screenings for eligible women who are uninsured or underinsured and have limited incomes.
Early detection can play an important role in identifying breast cancer before symptoms become more advanced, making access to screening particularly important for women who might otherwise postpone a mammogram because of its cost.
In addition to the Apopka visit, the Mammolink bus will make three stops in Orlando during October.
The mobile unit will be at the YMCA, 814 W. Oak Ridge Road, from 9 am to 1:30 pm. October 17: the Mexican Consulate, 2550 Technology Drive, from 8 am to 4 pm; October 19: Grace Medical Home, 1417 E. Concord St., from 8 am to 4 pm. October 27.
The Apopka event will close out the four scheduled Orange County stops on October 29.
