Former Orange County School Board members endorse Christine Moore for Apopka mayor

A group of former Orange County School Board members is backing Christine Moore in the race for Apopka mayor, adding a new layer of support as the April 14 runoff approaches.

Former board members Bill Sublette (2010–2018), Linda Kobert (2014–2022), Kathleen “Kat” Gordon (2000–2020), Joie Cadle (2002–2018), Pam Gould (2016–2024), Daryl Flynn (2006–2018), and Nancy Robbinson (2008–2018) jointly announced their endorsement this week.

In a collective statement, the group pointed to Moore’s track record and leadership during her time on the Orange County School Board.

“We're honored to have worked alongside Christine Moore on the Orange County School Board,” the statement read. “Her unwavering dedication to our community, students, and families has always been evident. Christine has been a strong advocate for Apopka's schools, consistently delivering real results for her district.”

The former board members also emphasized Moore’s experience and readiness to lead at the municipal level.

“Tough, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to public service, she has the experience to lead a city,” the statement continued. “We are proud to endorse Christine Moore for Mayor of Apopka.”

Moore currently serves as the Orange County Commissioner for District 2 and previously represented the area on the school board. She made history as the first woman elected to the District 2 commission seat.

She was appreciative of the endorsement of her former colleagues.

"Thank you to my former colleagues for their confidence in my ability to lead the City of Apopka," Moore said. "This board oversaw the hard work of teachers, classified employees, and student achievement, and won the prestigious Broad Prize as the top urban school district in the United States. We also worked together to better fund arts and athletics and rebuild many schools in Apopka."

During her tenure in county government, Moore has been involved in major infrastructure efforts, including the $125 million Wekiwa Springs septic-to-sewer conversion project in Apopka.

She also holds both the Advanced Certified County Commissioner (ACCC) and Certified Board Member (CBM) designations and is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

The endorsement comes as Moore faces Apopka City Commissioner Nick Nesta in the April 14 runoff election, which will determine the city’s next mayor.
