From the Florida’s Disaster Contractors Network
Florida’s Disaster Contractors Network (DCN) has been activated to support homeowners needing help with emergency home repairs following Hurricane Helene.
DCN is a free resource founded by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), designed to connect homeowners with licensed contractors and suppliers to perform emergency repairs. Through proactive education and outreach efforts, DCN also prevents homeowners from being preyed upon by unlicensed contractors. DBPR is the state agency that licenses and oversees Florida’s more than 87,000 construction industry licensees.
“DCN online is a great tool for Floridians to have in their hurricane toolkit as Hurricane Helene approaches. We know that state-licensed contractors have the appropriate education, proper workers’ compensation and liability insurance, and the necessary experience to get the job done the first time properly,” said Melanie S. Griffin, Secretary of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. “The Disaster Contractors Network can help protect Floridians from fraudsters who take advantage of vulnerable Floridians following a storm.”
HOW IT WORKS: Once homeowners can safely assess their home repair needs, they are encouraged to log onto DCNOnline.org and search by county for a list of Florida-licensed contractors in their local community who are providing these services.”
FOR CONTRACTORS/SUPPLIERS: While many Florida contractors and suppliers have already registered, there is still an opportunity for additional licensed contractors and suppliers to log onto DCNOnline.org to register their licensed companies.
TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS: The DCN has been connecting homeowners to licensed contractors for 20 years and was particularly instrumental in helping Florida recover from Hurricanes Ian, Michael, and Charley.
