The lone residential burglary was reported on June 8 in the 2400 block of Sentry Palm Drive. A commercial burglary was reported the following day in the 640 block of Emerald Grove Drive.

Vehicle burglaries accounted for the majority of reported incidents during the week. Four of the five cases occurred on June 10, with reports filed in the 200 block of North Hawthorne Avenue, the 1350 block of Falconcrest Boulevard, and two separate incidents in the 1560 block of West Orange Blossom Trail. Another vehicle burglary was reported on June 13 in the 2170 block of East Semoran Boulevard.

The report does not provide details about whether any arrests have been made or what items may have been taken during the incidents. Police noted that all reported incidents remain subject to change pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

Law enforcement agencies routinely encourage residents to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of burglary, including locking vehicle doors, removing valuables from plain view, securing homes and businesses, and reporting suspicious activity.

Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Apopka Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

Here are a few tips  to protect against home burglaries:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take it regularly.
  • Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
  • Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
  • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.

The Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:

  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock your car doors
