From the St. Johns River Water Management District
June brought above-average rainfall to the St. Johns River Water Management District’s 18-county region.
In Apopka, rainfall averaged approximately eight inches in June.
A full report outlining June’s hydrologic conditions was presented at the District’s Governing Board meeting Tuesday. Highlights include:
Rainfall
- Districtwide, June rainfall averaged 8.20 inches, which is 1.46 inches above the average for the month.
- Districtwide, the cumulative rainfall total for the past 12 months is 54.65 inches, which is 3.64 inches above the long-term average.
- Rainfall over the past 12 months was above average throughout most of the District, with the exception of Nassau County.
- County-wide rainfall totals ranged from a high of 68.7 inches in Seminole County to a low of 43.8 inches in Nassau County.
Groundwater
- At the end of June, Upper Floridan aquifer conditions were in the normal range, except for some areas in Duval and northern St. Johns counties, where aquifer conditions were in the low range and small zones of high conditions in Brevard and Volusia counties.
- Groundwater levels expressed as a single districtwide index are at the 70th percentile, which is in the normal range for this time of year.
Spring flows
- The mean monthly flow at Silver Springs is in the normal range for this time of year at 531 cubic feet per second (cfs), or 343 million gallons per day (mgd), which is a 21 cfs increase from May’s mean.
- At the Blue Spring station in Volusia County, the mean monthly flow was 148 cfs, or 96 mgd, which is in the normal range.
- At Rock Springs, the monthly mean flow increased slightly and remains in the high range with an increase of 1 cfs to 60 cfs (39 mgd).
- The mean monthly flow at Wekiwa Springs is in the high range for this time of year at 66 cfs (43 mgd).
