Weather is disrupting two Apopka-area activities this weekend, with organizers postponing Apopka PRIDE 2026 and the St. Johns River Water Management District temporarily closing the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive to motorized vehicles. The announcements affect Saturday’s community celebration and access to the popular scenic drive through the Columbus Day holiday.

Hope CommUnity Center announced that Apopka PRIDE, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, has been canceled for that date because of the forecast of inclement weather. Organizers said they will reschedule the event and announce a new date once a decision is made.

In its notice to media partners, the center cited a National Weather Service forecast calling for an 80% chance of rain, with showers and thunderstorms likely in the Apopka area Saturday. The celebration had been scheduled for 2–6 pm at the center, 800 S. Hawthorne Ave.

The free event, open to adults 18 and older with advance registration, was expected to feature live music, drag performances, the Orlando Gay Chorus, local vendors, health screenings and wellness activities. Its theme, “Bloom Without Permission,” celebrates LGBTQ+ visibility and community.

“We appreciate your support and understanding and will keep you informed as soon as more information is available,” organizers said in the cancellation notice.

Wildlife Drive closes to vehicles through Monday

Separately, the St. Johns River Water Management District announced that the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive will close to motorized vehicles from Friday, October 9, through Monday, October 12, because of heavy rainfall and saturated road conditions. The closure includes Columbus Day, when the drive would normally be open.

According to the district, Wildlife Drive’s roads are susceptible to damage when wet conditions combine with heavy vehicle traffic. Thousands of vehicle trips typically occur over the holiday weekend, and the temporary closure is intended to prevent costly damage and protect recent roadway improvements.

The closure applies to motorized vehicles. The Lake Apopka Loop Trail and all pedestrian access gates will remain open to pedestrians and bicycles.

Residents and visitors can check the district’s recreation announcements page or its social media accounts for closure updates. Apopka PRIDE organizers will announce the celebration’s new date when it is finalized.
