The matchup brought together two neighboring programs that had not faced each other since the 2023 season. Lake Brantley entered Friday’s game at 3-3, while Apopka came in at 2-4, with both teams looking to build momentum as the season continued.

For Apopka, the night was about more than football. Homecoming brought the school community together for a night of school pride and tradition, while the renewed rivalry added another layer of excitement as the Blue Darters welcomed the Patriots back to their schedule.

After a scoreless third quarter, Apopka entered the fourth trailing 15-13. Apopka’s defense helped keep the team within striking distance, blocking a kick in the fourth quarter. The Blue Darters later faced fourth down at Lake Brantley’s 45-yard line with approximately seven minutes remaining but failed to convert, giving the Patriots another opportunity to protect their lead.

Lake Brantley appeared to have a chance to extend its advantage, but Stephano Samper missed a field goal, giving Apopka possession at its own 35-yard line. With time running down, the Blue Darters began the game-deciding drive.

Apopka moved the ball downfield, reaching Lake Brantley’s 43-yard line with about a minute left, and Kai Goodling connected with Ceon Cotton for a touchdown to put Apopka up 19-15. Goodling and Cotton linked up again on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 21-15.

Lake Brantley couldn't respond before time expired, allowing Apopka to secure the six-point win. The win improved the Blue Darters to 3-4, while the Patriots fell to 3-4.

The late comeback gave Apopka a memorable finish to its homecoming celebration and the renewed rivalry. After the final whistle, the band closed the night with its halftime performance, keeping the celebration going beyond the Blue Darters’ winning drive.

The 4-3 Timber Creek Wolves travel to Apopka next Friday to face the Blue Darters, who have now won three of their last four games. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
