The Apopka Police Department responded to 1,815 calls for service, investigated 31 traffic crashes and issued 98 citations during the week of June 21-27, according to the department's weekly media arrest report.

Among the week's arrests were multiple cases involving battery, theft, DUI, resisting law enforcement, fraud, criminal mischief, and outstanding warrants. The report also included several felony investigations and a number of juvenile arrests.
One of the week's most significant cases occurred June 24, when 31-year-old Lazaro Vela of Orlando was arrested on charges including aggravated fleeing with injury or property damage, aggravated battery on specified personnel, resisting an officer with and without violence, harming a police/fire/search-and-rescue animal, and committing an act that could cause death. The incident occurred in the 1260 block of South Apopka Boulevard.
Other notable arrests included a domestic battery case, multiple retail theft investigations along South Orange Blossom Trail, DUI charges stemming from a traffic stop near Sheeler Avenue, and several arrests for outstanding warrants.
The department also reported several juvenile arrests during the reporting period. Those cases included allegations of stalking, simple assault and multiple counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle involving youths between the ages of 12 and 14. One juvenile was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license and later arrested on additional charges of criminal mischief and battery.
