The Apopka Police Department received reports of three vehicle burglaries during the week of June 21-27, according to the department's latest burglary report.
All three incidents involved auto burglaries reported at separate locations across the city.
The reported incidents include:
- June 23: An auto burglary was reported in the 4460-4469 block of Dreamy Day Street.
- June 25: An auto burglary was reported in the 800-809 block of Marvin C. Zanders Avenue.
- June 27: An auto burglary was reported in the 4480-4489 block of Twisted Tree Loop.
The weekly burglary report lists only the general block locations of reported incidents and does not include details about what was taken, whether arrests have been made or if the vehicles were locked at the time of the burglaries.
The Apopka Police Department notes that all reported incidents remain subject to change as investigations continue.
Police encourage residents to reduce the risk of vehicle burglaries by locking their vehicles, removing valuables from plain view and reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Here are a few tips to protect against home burglaries:
- Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
- Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
- Keep your garage door closed and locked.
- Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
- Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
- Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
- Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
- Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
- Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
- Don't share your vacation plans on social media.
The Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:
- Remove all valuables from your vehicle
- Lock your car doors
