Apopka Police Department Burglary Report: April 9th-15th

Posted

The Apopka Burglary Report for April 9th-15th shows eight burglaries reported in Apopka.

Here are a few tips  to protect against home burglaries:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
  • Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
  • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.

Chief Michael McKinley of the Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:

  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock your car doors

I was watching 35 news this morning and they were showing a guy responsible for a rash of car burglaries in Apopka, and wanting the public to help identify him. They never did tell where in Apopka he was doing the thefts. I was hoping they would. Last night, it wasn't very late, we heard helicopters flying all around, and sirens. We knew something was going on, but didn't know what.. Just knew the cops were hunting someone.
