The City of Apopka announced that all city offices will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. In addition, the city will observe its annual floating holiday on Friday, January 2. Normal operations will resume Monday, January 5, at 8 am.
City officials emphasized that essential services will not be interrupted during the holiday closure. Police, fire, and emergency medical services will continue to operate on their normal schedules. There will also be no changes to Apopka’s refuse collection schedule for January 1 or January 2, and residents should place trash and recycling out as they normally would.
At the same time, residents in unincorporated Orange County will begin a new curbside collection schedule. The updated schedule does not reduce services; once-a-week collection for garbage, recycling, yard waste, and large items will continue.
Under the new system, recycling and yard waste will be collected on a different day from garbage and large items. County officials say the change will improve efficiency and allow trucks with robotic arms to access tight spaces, including cul-de-sacs and townhome communities, more easily.
Residents are encouraged to look up their new collection days by visiting ocfl.net/CollectionSchedule and entering their address. All items should be placed curbside by 6 am on scheduled collection days.
Officials also noted that New Year’s Day, January 1, remains a regular collection day under the new Orange County schedule.
