Posted

The Apopka Police Department reported four burglaries in the city between July 19 and July 25, according to its weekly burglary report.

Related: APD makes 28 arrests last week.

Two of the incidents were classified as commercial burglaries, while the other two involved vehicles.

The first commercial burglary was reported July 21 in the 2820 block of West Orange Avenue. A second commercial burglary was reported July 22 in the 800 block of East Semoran Boulevard.

Both vehicle burglaries were reported July 25. One occurred in the 60 block of West Eighth Street, and the other was reported in the 520 block of Wekiva Crest Drive.

The report did not include details about what was taken, whether anyone was arrested or whether the incidents may have been connected.

APD noted that information contained in the weekly report is subject to change pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

Here are a few tips  to protect against home burglaries:

  • Make your home look occupied, and make it difficult to break in.
  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving or going to bed.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers, or flyers to build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Arrange your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time.
  • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary.
  • Pushbutton locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.
  • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security.
  • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.

The Apopka Police Department tells us that many vehicle burglaries could have been prevented if everyone remembered to do just two things:

  • Remove all valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock your car doors
