The Apopka Police Department made 28 arrests during the week of July 12-18, according to the department's weekly media arrest report. During the same reporting period, officers responded to 1,627 calls for service, investigated 30 traffic crashes and issued 79 traffic citations.

Among the most serious arrests was a 39-year-old Apopka man who was charged with child abuse without great bodily harm, child neglect with great bodily harm, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, two hit-and-run offenses and reckless driving causing damage following an incident on Hermit Smith Road.
Police also arrested a 27-year-old Winter Park man on charges of aggravated battery on a pregnant victim and obstructing justice by hindering communication to law enforcement or the courts.
Drug-related arrests included two individuals charged with trafficking fentanyl or fentanyl analogues of four grams or more in separate cases on Rock Springs Road and at the intersection of Clarcona Road and East Ella J. Gilmore Street. Additional arrests involved possession of controlled substances without a prescription and possession of drug equipment.
The report also included several DUI-related arrests, including one involving a driver accused of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher while transporting a person younger than 18, as well as additional DUI cases involving crashes that caused property damage or injuries.
Other charges during the week included battery, petit theft, trespassing, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer without violence, criminal mischief, out-of-county warrants and probation violations. The report also lists one juvenile arrest for violating probation conditions.
As with all arrest reports, the filing of criminal charges is an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
