APD arrests suspect in two Apopka bank robberies

The Apopka Police Department arrested and charged a suspect in the bank robberies of two Fifth Third Banks in Apopka just four days after the second incident.

According to a statement released by the APD, "Detectives from the Apopka Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division developed a lead regarding a possible vehicle used in the robbery at the Fifth Third Bank, located at 1725 S. Orange  Blossom Trail, on May 20, 2024," the statement said. "Through their investigative efforts, they identified a suspect. A search warrant for the suspect's residence was obtained and served on the suspect's residence (Friday). During an interview, the suspect confessed to the Fifth Third Bank robbery on May 20, 2024, as well as the Fifth Third Bank robbery on May 8, 2024, located at 1495 Rock Springs Road. The suspect has been booked  into the Orange County Jail." 

The APD arrested Taylor Cale Mizelle, 45, and charged him with two counts of third-degree grand theft and one count of robbery with a firearm. He is currently being held at the Orange County Jail on $20,000 bail.

The APD arrested Taylor Cale Mizelle, 45, and charged him with two counts of third-degree grand theft and one count of robbery with a firearm. He is currently being held at the Orange County Jail on $20,000 bail.

On May 8th, officers from the APD responded to a bank robbery at the Fifth Third Bank, located at 1495 Rock Springs Road. The suspect entered the bank, walked behind the teller counter, and removed money from an open drawer before fleeing the scene on foot.

No injuries resulted from this incident.
 
On May 20th, APD officers responded to an armed bank robbery at the Fifth Third Bank, located at 1725 S Orange Blossom Trail. The suspect entered the bank, proceeded to the teller counter, and demanded the employee open the cash drawer. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley praised the team effort of the APD.

“This case is a great example of the teamwork between our patrol units, crime analyst, and detectives," he said. "From the moment the first robbery occurred, our crime analyst and detectives worked tirelessly to identify the perpetrator. Following the second robbery, our crime analyst was determined to find a lead for our detectives to pursue. Through hard work and diligence, she successfully located a lead that she and our detectives followed, ultimately leading to the suspect's identification. This arrest is a direct result of their hard work and dedication. It is a pleasure to watch this team work together to solve crimes in our community.”
