| During my long career as a community banker in Apopka, I have found it easy to balance my time.
I have been fortunate to live within ten minutes of where I work and my office has always been two minutes from City Hall. I have dedicated my entire adult life to being involved in community service and activities. As a forty plus year member of Apopka Rotary and Chamber of Commerce I have had the opportunity to serve as president of each and participate in all their projects. With my office being located in the center of town I have always felt that I am the most accessible Commissioner to all constituents. I have maintained an open door policy and welcome input from all of our residents. My employer has been very supportive and encourages their employees to be actively involved in their community. The most important part of the balance is my family and although they have sacrificed at times for my schedule, they have taken the opportunity themselves to contribute to our city. |
I am running for a position which will require a large investment of time and energy in order to positively serve the residents of Apopka. Work/life balance and time management are things I think we all struggle with at times, and it was certainly something I thought long about prior to running.
Successful time management, through my experience, is based on planning ahead and creating a routine. As a Commissioner, I will have two standing City Council meeting commitments each month in which I have planned. I also understand there could be special meetings or other community events in which to attend, as well as analyzing agenda items and meeting with residents. Fortunately, I work for an employer who is generous with paid time off, and plan to use this for my city commitments which fall during weekday working hours. As with anything in life, there are unknowns, and if scheduling conflicts arise I will prioritize items with those directly impacting the interest of the city taking priority. I am truly blessed to have a very supportive family, who sees the investment of time to the city as a win for our family, and the families of Apopka, as well. |
I firmly believe that the key to successfully balancing the job of being city commissioner and having another job is that a person needs to be personally invested. My definition of personal investment is being dedicated enough to put in the long hours and seeing one’s final outcome of his/her hard work. I firmly believe that my dedication and hard work will result in the improvement in the city’s infrastructure and economy.
Secondly, I am an independent small business owner of a furniture company, All American Furniture. Working as my own boss allows me to have flexible hours. My store is opened Monday thru Friday from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m and is located at 54 East 5th Street in Apopka, Fl. The store is literally located right across the street from City Hall. Another positive aspect of being a small business owner is that I can rely on my family and employees to run the business when I am not there. Lastly, I am a YOUNG, healthy and single man with a clean bill of health. Other than my professional job duties, I am actively and physically engaged in swimming, cycling, singing and playing the guitar.
