What Could Be Causing Your Headaches?

Posted

A headache can really ruin your day. If you get them often, they can be even more annoying and you might find them worrying too. Before you start to think of the worst possible cause for headaches, it's important to note that there are many everyday things that can result in you having headaches, whether it's every now and then or more regularly. Headaches are generally a symptom of something, rather than an illness on their own. If you can find out what might be causing your headaches, you can address them appropriately. Take a look at some of these possible causes.

Dehydration

Not drinking enough fluids can be one of the reasons you find yourself getting headaches. You might think you're drinking enough but you're not really having as much as you should. One important thing to keep in mind is that drinks with caffeine or alcohol don't really count if you want to stay hydrated. Both substances have a diuretic effect, which means they can make you need to pee more. Healthy drinks like water or herbal tea with no caffeine can be the best choices. It's important that you keep drinking throughout the day, and try taking a drink if you feel hungry. You could actually be thirsty instead.

Illness

Various illnesses can also give you a headache. If you have a cold or the flu, you can find that you experience annoying headaches. Some people also suffer from sinus infections, which can give you headaches and even make you feel as if you have a toothache. There are some home remedies you can use for sinus relief if blocked sinuses are giving you headaches. A nasal spray or antibiotics might also be prescribed for you. It's important to stay hydrated, which can help to thin out and drain the mucus in your sinuses.

Vision Problems/Eye Strain

When people have problems with their vision, they can find that it causes headaches. If you're struggling to see properly, it can cause you to squint and strain your eyes. It's hard to concentrate on things when your vision isn't working as it should. It could be that you need glasses, or there might be another issue with your vision. One of the best things you can do if you're getting headaches is to get your vision checked. You might not notice if your vision has changed, especially if it happens gradually, but an eye test can pick it up.

Stress

Headaches can be a result of stress. If you're experiencing a lot of stress, it can make you tense and lead to regular headaches. Finding ways to deal with the stress you're experiencing is the best way to address stress-induced headaches. Everyone can find different ways to cope. Some people like to meditate, while others take long baths or go for regular walks. Talking about your sources of stress, whether to a therapist or friends and family, can make it easier to deal with too.

Most headaches are nothing to worry about, but if you're concerned about regular headaches, you might want to see a doctor.
