2026 Wekiva Paint Out at Wekiva Island

Wekiva Paint Out marks 20 years of art, conservation, and community along the Wekiva River

Weeklong plein air festival at Wekiva Island brings artists to paint, auction and raise funds to protect Central Florida’s natural springs and waterways

In Summary:

Now in its 20th year, the Wekiva Paint Out invites visitors to watch nationally recognized plein air artists create works on site at Wekiwa Springs State Park, Wekiva Island, and surrounding natural areas. The week features live painting, a gallery exhibition, auctions, a gala, and an amateur “Quick Draw” competition, with artwork available for purchase directly from the easel. Organizers say the goal remains the same as when the event launched in 2006: celebrate local landscapes while raising awareness and funds to protect the Wekiva River.

In the last 20 years, fashion has changed, technology has evolved, and the population of Central Florida has grown. But one thing that has stood the test of time? The Wekiva Paint Out captures the area’s unique natural resources in art.

The event will celebrate its 20th year from February 23 to 28, bringing world-class artists to Wekiva Island, Wekiwa Springs State Park, and the surrounding areas to create plein air masterpieces.  Visitors can watch artists at work, tour the gallery, and purchase pieces directly from the easel.

As intended by founder William “Big Bill” Tippit in 2006, the event raises awareness of the need to protect the Wekiva River. Proceeds benefit Keep Seminole Beautiful and the Wekiva Wilderness Trust.

“The fact that we’re celebrating this milestone of 20 years is a testament to what the Wekiva Paint Out means to these artists, the community, and our environment,” said Mary Weinaug, the event’s organizer and executive director of Keep Seminole Beautiful. “Come out for a few hours and watch these artists work, and you’ll see what I mean. They capture the beauty in a way that inspires you to want to protect these surroundings.”

The week includes several special events:

  • Live auction—7 pm. Wednesday, February 25.  Going once, going twice, sold! Attendees can bid on a piece (and maybe score a deal) in this exciting art auction. It’s free to attend, but registration is required.
  • Evening painting and pasta bar—5 to 9 pm Friday, February 27. Watch the artists work and enjoy a special pasta bar at Wekiva Island for $15.95 per guest.
  • Quick Draw amateur competition—Noon to 2 pm. Saturday, February 28. Got art skills? Put them to the test. Amateurs can paint alongside the pros and compete to win. $30 per entry. Register here.
  • All-Inclusive Gala—6 to 10 pm. Saturday, February 28. See all the work that was created during the week and celebrate with food, drink, and music—riverside. $50 per person or $90 per couple. Get tickets here.

Opportunities for sponsors and patrons are still available and include special events and an art credit. Those who cannot attend can see the Virtual Exhibition here.

Wekiva Island has served as the host for the Wekiva Paint Out since 2009 and offers its own art gallery, Gallery C.E.R.O.®
