From Staff Reports and the City of Apopka
Apopka is gearing up for a weekend full of history, music, and community spirit with three special events you won’t want to miss. From celebrating City Hall’s 100th anniversary to enjoying local jazz talent and a free family concert, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Friday, October 3rd: Centennial Celebration at Apopka City Hall
The weekend kicks off Friday evening at 6 p.m. on the front steps of Apopka City Hall with the Centennial Celebration honoring the historic building’s 100th year, as well as Apopka’s 143rd anniversary as a city. The evening begins with a plaque dedication and proclamation, followed by a celebration at the Market on 5th. In partnership with the Apopka Historical Society, Orange Lodge No. 36, and Creative Hub of Apopka, guests can explore historical photos, anecdotes, and even kid-friendly coloring maps. It’s a chance to reflect on Apopka’s past while celebrating its bright future.
Saturday, October 4th: Saturday Sounds featuring The Dave Capp Project
On Saturday, from 5-7 pm, head over to the Saturday Sounds Concert Series to catch the Dave Capp Project featuring France Neil, a group nominated four years in a row as “Best Music Act” by Orlando Weekly. Known for their versatility—ranging from jazz and blues to Motown, pop, and dance favorites—the band has performed at top venues like Disney Springs’ House of Blues and the College Park Jazz Festival. The free concert is family-friendly and kicks off in the evening with local food trucks on site. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food and drinks.
Saturday, October 4th: Harvest Sounds Band Showcase
Also on Saturday, downtown Apopka transforms into a stage for local student musicians at the Harvest Sounds Band Showcase. From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on 5th Street, the jazz bands from Apopka High School and Wekiva High School will perform an evening of live music. The event is free to attend, with donations encouraged to support the schools’ upcoming travel opportunities: Apopka High raising funds for a parade performance in London, and Wekiva High preparing for a parade in New Orleans. Parking will be available at City Hall and the 5th Street lot.
This event serves as a fundraiser to support both schools in their upcoming travel opportunities:
