Val Demings First to Qualify in Congressional District 10 Race

The Demings campaign announced today Chief Val Demings is the first candidate in Florida's 10th Congressional District Race to qualify to run by petition.

The campaign reports that it gathered the petitions through an organized volunteer effort. The majority of the 2,298 petitions required to qualify came from Orange County voters. Individuals representing over 40 counties across the state signed petitions.

"I'm so grateful for all of the people who helped us get to this point," said Chief Val Demings, "The support we have seen surrounding our campaign, from our dedicated volunteers to the community members we've met throughout Central Florida, has been overwhelming and we couldn't be more excited about the growing momentum as we push towards August 30th."

The boundaries of Florida’s 10th Congressional District were created by the Florida Supreme Court on December 2, 2015. Here is a link to the decision. See page 108 for a map of the Approved Congressional Redistricting Plan.

As the map excerpt below shows, the new District 10 takes in all of Northwest, West and Southwest Orange County, including Apopka.
