George W. Smith
George W. Smith Jr, 42 of Zellwood, has been arrested and charged with Robbery while wearing a mask, Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony and Grand Theft.
At 4:30 PM on Friday, the Apopka Police Department responded to the Seacoast Bank at 345 East Main Street in Apopka for a Robbery. Witnesses inside the bank advised that Smith entered the bank and committed the robbery. Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle Smith fled in. Responding officers observed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Smith was positively identified as the person who committed the robbery. Property and evidence from the robbery were recovered in Smith’s possession.
Smith has been transported to the Orange County Jail for processing.
The APD is asking for no bond in this case until it is set by a judge. Smith has been released from prison within the last year. He has been sentenced to the department of corrections multiple times for offenses to include sexual battery, robbery, fleeing and attempting to elude, theft, felony battery, and resisting an officer. If convicted, Smith qualifies for sentencing as a prison releasee re-offender, habitual felony offender, habitual violent felony offender, and a violent career criminal. Smith is registered as a sex offender.
