Updating Breaking News: One dead, two injured after a two-vehicle collision in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:58 AM a Kia K5 sedan, driven by a 39-year-old Ridge Manor man, was traveling eastbound on SR-50. 

At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by a 61-year-old Brooksville man, was traveling westbound on SR-50. 

At the intersection of South Main Street, the first vehicle turned left into the path and was struck by the second vehicle.  The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured during the incident; however, the driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. 

Additionally, traveling in the first vehicle were two passengers, a 71-year-old Ridge Manor woman, and a 49-year-old Ridge Manor woman, both of whom suffered serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals. 

After being transported to the hospital, the 71-year-old later died from her injuries. 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
