Updating Breaking News: Motorcyclist dies in collision on SR-436 with garbage truck

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash in Apopka this morning, resulting in fatal injuries to a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:21 am, a garbage truck driven by a 51-year-old Apopka man was traveling southbound on Sheeler Avenue approaching State Road 436 in the left turn lane. At the same time, a 1986 Yamaha XV1100 motorcycle, driven by a 57-year-old Orlando man, was also traveling northbound, approaching SR-436.

The motorcyclist proceeded northbound through the intersection when the garbage truck attempted to make a left turn to travel eastbound on 436. As a result, the front of the garbage truck struck the front of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was transported to AdventHealth Apopka, where he was pronounced deceased. The garbage truck driver remained on the scene and reported no injuries.

The crash remains under investigation as to which vehicle had the green traffic light.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the deceased motorcyclist.
