Updating Breaking News: Motorcyclist dies after a collision with SUV in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:45 PM, a Chevy Tahoe sport utility vehicle, driven by a 39-year-old Crystal River man, was traveling northbound on Spring Lake Highway.  

At the same time, a BMW motorcycle, operated by a 66-year-old Brooksville man, was traveling southbound on Spring Lake Highway.  

South of SR-50, the SUV attempted to turn left into a gas station parking lot, entered the path of, and collided with the motorcycle. 

Transported to an area hospital, the motorcyclist later died from injuries suffered during the crash. 

The SUV driver suffered minor injuries, as did a 36-year-old Crystal River woman traveling as a passenger in the SUV.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver, passenger, or motorcyclist involved in the collision.
