From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Apopka that resulted in the death of a passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:09 pm, a 2024 Ford Maverick driven by a 60-year-old Apopka woman was traveling westbound on State Road 436, approaching the intersection of Lake Pleasant Road in the left turn lane.
At the same time, a 2012 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old Columbia, SC man with a 25-year-old Apopka woman as a passenger, was traveling eastbound on SR-436, approaching Lake Pleasant Road in the inside lane.
As they approached, the first vehicle attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection and entered the direct path of the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle struck the right side of the first vehicle, ejecting both rider and passenger.
The motorcyclist was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while the passenger was transported to AdventHealth Apopka and pronounced deceased.
The first vehicle's driver and passenger (an 18-year-old Apopka man) did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
