Updating Breaking News: Apopka man involved in hit-and-run collision on 441; pedestrian dies

Apopka driver stays on scene; FHP is asking for help from the public

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian in Orange County this morning.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:10 am Saturday, an unknown vehicle described as a pickup truck was traveling northbound on US-441 near the intersection of Rosamond Drive in the inside lane. At the same time, a 63-year-old Orlando man was walking in an easterly direction and entered the northbound lanes of the Orange Blossom Trail. The pedestrian entered the direct path of the pickup and was struck by the vehicle.

After the collision, the pickup continued traveling on Orange Blossom Trail. The pedestrian was now laying in the inside lane. 

Shortly after the collision, a 2016 Toyota Tacoma, driven by a 74-year-old Apopka man, was traveling northbound on OBT when he saw the pedestrian, attempted to swerve to miss, but collided with him.

The second driver was not injured and stayed on the scene. 

According to the report, the pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the crashes.

Witnesses said that the hit-and-run vehicle was either a white or silver Chevy Silverado but could not provide any other description of the vehicle or the driver.
