A 90-year-old Apopka man died Sunday evening after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant near the intersection of Kelly Park Road and Round Lake Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:21 pm. Investigators said the man was driving a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe westbound on Kelly Park Road east of Round Lake Road when he apparently suffered a medical episode.
According to the FHP, the SUV veered off the roadway to the left and struck a fire hydrant. The driver was transported to AdventHealth Apopka, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Florida Highway Patrol investigators indicated that a possible medical episode may have contributed to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
The crash involved no other vehicles, according to the preliminary report.
