Updating Afternoon News: Motorcyclist dies after a two-vehicle collision in Lake County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this afternoon in Lake County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:03 pm a 2024 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle driven by a 28-year-old Lakeland man was traveling southbound on State Road 33 approaching Pine Island Road.

At the same time, a Ford F-250 driven by a 63-year-old Inverness woman was traveling southbound on SR-33 approaching Pine Island Road.

According to the report, the motorcyclist was traveling over the posted speed limit and entered the northbound lane to pass traffic while in a no-passing zone. The second driver began to make a left turn to travel eastbound on Pine Island Road, and the two vehicles collided.

The impact caused the rider to be thrown from his motorcycle. He was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation. 

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or rider involved in the crash.
