Posted

A Ukrainian Festival scheduled this weekend at the Apopka Amphitheater and part of the Saturday Sounds Concert Series has been changed to a rally and demonstration in support of Ukraine as Russian troops begin to invade its borders.

The Ukranian Festival Vatra released the following statement on its Facebook page:

"Dear community, friends, countrymen, we appeal to you at this disturbing time when the occupier attacked Ukraine. At the moment there is aggression on the side of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.

Due to recent events, we are changing the format of the Festival "Vatra" from entertainment to a large-scale protest. We, the Ukrainian community, residents of Central Florida, strongly urge all indifferent people to come with posters and a national symbol for a peaceful protest "No war, no aggression, no occupation in Ukraine."

With our actions, we will show our unity, our strength and draw the attention of the world society to Ukraine.

There will also be a fundraiser that will go to the defense capacity of the Ukrainian army.

Today, more than ever, we need to be friendly and strong. Let's join the joint prayer "For peace in Ukraine".
Together we will win! Together we are the strength!

Glory to Ukraine!

Bring any national symbols or Flags with you!!! By these actions, we will show our unity, our strengths, and draw the attention of the world community to Ukraine."

The rally and demonstration start at 2 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday.

On February 24th, Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, marking a major escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian that had been ongoing since 2014. The campaign was preceded by a prolonged Russian military buildup since early 2021, and demands by Russia to legally prohibit Ukraine from joining NATO, an alliance of European states with the U.S. and Canada. The days prior to the invasion were marked by Russian recognition of two self-proclaimed Ukrainian states, the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic, and followed by the incursion of the Russian Armed Forces to the Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine on February 21st.
