UF/IFAS offering summer programs for residents, businesses, children... even backyard chickens!

UF/IFAS Extension Orange County provides education and information to residents and businesses through workshops, publications, and mass media in the areas of family life, youth development, natural resources, horticulture, and agriculture.

Current classes/events are listed below.

RentWise (Online)

The RentWise program is designed to provide education and skills on renting as well as an opportunity for low-income residents to obtain rental assistance. Workshops require 5 hours of training, after which participants will receive a certificate of completion for an opportunity to apply and prequalify for rental assistance. Eligible Orange County residents may qualify for up to $3,000 in rental assistance.

Backyard Chicken Class (Online)

Keeping chickens and producing your own eggs in suburban and urban settings has become a popular hobby! Hens in a coop can be a fun and practical addition to your home garden. Learn how to get started and be successful in this program presented via Zoom by Orange County Extension Agent JK Yarborough.

SPANISH First Time Homebuyer Workshop 6/23 & 6/30 (Online) 

Learn the steps to home ownership and how to obtain an affordable mortgage in this 2-part online class offered via Zoom in SPANISH by a team of UF/IFAS Extension Agents, including Orange County Extension Agent Jenny Rodriguez. The homebuyer workshop meets the education requirements for down payment assistance programs.

4-H Healthy Kids Camp (In-Person)/4-H STEM Camp (In-person)

There are two weeks of camp for kids from 8 to 12 years old. Our 4-H Healthy Kids Camp returns with a fun and engaging activities to teach campers how they can live healthier lives through better eating habits, physical activity, time spent in nature, gardening, smart money habits, mindfulness, and more. And our ever-popular 4-H STEM Camp will offer hands-on lessons about many varied subjects within the world of science.   

$75 fee per camp OR $125 fee for both camps. Scholarships are available for families that qualify.

Monday, July 25, 2022 - Friday, July 29, 2022, 8:00am 12:00pm. (S.T.E.M)

4-H Teens in the Kitchen (In Person)

This 3- week series camp is for teens ages 13-17 as of 9/1/21/22. Participants will learn about basic cooking skills and techniques, how to prepare healthy meals and snacks, and how to make smarter food choices! Teens should plan to attend all three sessions. 

Fridays July 8, 15, 22, 2022, 11:00am - 1:00pm 

$30 fee for three all sessions. Scholarships are available for families that qualify.
