The field for the 2022 Apopka elections just got a little more crowded.

Wes Dumey, the President of Durable Impact Consulting, has qualified to run for Seat #2 on the Apopka City Commission against incumbent Diane Velazquez, according to City Clerk Susan Bone. It was also learned that Eric Mock, an Apopka realtor, qualified to run for Seat #4 on the city commission against Nick Nesta.

According to his Linkedin page, Dumey is a Senior Consultant with Durable Impact Consulting, a Florida-based business intelligence, and data warehouse practice. Dumey has worked with multiple Fortune 500 clients implementing complex projects, business systems analysis and design, leading and managing projects, presenting status up to C-level executives, and working as both an individual contributor and a team player to accomplish specific objectives. Dumey is also the owner of the Florida Bear Brewing concept, with plans to place a small micro-brewery in the downtown Apopka area.

He released the following statement after qualifying:

"Today I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Seat #2 on the Apopka City Council. My first visit to the city of Apopka was almost thirteen years ago. From the first minutes, I knew this was a special city and I immediately began working the wheels of change to make Apopka my place of permanent residence. It has been a great pleasure to watch this city grow during that time and be accepted as a member of the community. Good neighbors make great communities - and this city is a  great place to set down roots. However, we must always strive to improve, and I desire to be part of that improvement in the quality of life of the citizens of Apopka.

While this is my first foray into political service, I’ve long been involved in public service, from my 500- hour volunteer service award from the Florida Parks Service to assisting local businesses and being a  community advocate. My leadership gained from working with multiple Fortune 500 clients, building a  successful small business practice, and being an active member of the community have all strongly prepared me for this opportunity to serve you.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to learning about you, speaking with you, and sharing my vision for the city of Apopka. I’m excited about the possibilities while taking this journey together with you."

According to his Facebook page, Mock is a real estate agent at YouHaveRealty.com and has been a resident of Apopka since 2014.

He released the following statement about running for office:

"I made my decision after watching and attending the commission meetings and believing that Apopka needs a voice on the commission from the fast developing and growing southwestern part of the city. Some refer to this area as the “Heart” district. I live just west of the hospital. The planned growth and development will change traffic loads and require new schools to be built. Having a voice to assist in the planning, safety, and needed infrastructure, were all in my decision to run. Having a seat on the commission from the different areas of Apopka is important."

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more details are known.
