The National Hurricane Center reports that Tropical Depression 6 has formed in the Atlantic and is expected to slowly strengthen and become Tropical Storm Fiona later today.
The system currently has sustained winds of 35 mph and is moving to the northwest at 15 mph.
At 5:00 AM today the depression is located 775 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
The depression is expected continue to track to the northwest.
While conditions over the next 48 hours are conducive to further development, the further north the system moves, the further it gets from the warm waters it needs to maintain its strength. No impacts are expected in the U.S.
The National Hurricane Center will issue its next update at 11:00 AM EDT.
