From the St. Johns River Water Management District
The St. Johns River Water Management District (District) will temporarily close portions of the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive on three Fridays in August — the 8th, 15th, and 22nd — to allow for critical slope-stabilization work. These closures are necessary to ensure public safety during the installation of erosion-control and slope-stabilizing materials.

The Wildlife Drive, which is one of the most popular birding and wildlife viewing routes in Central Florida, will remain open on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during this construction period. The work is part of ongoing maintenance efforts to protect the integrity of the levee and surrounding infrastructure.
While vehicular access is limited on select days, the Lake Apopka Loop Trail will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists. However, Lust Road, its pedestrian gate, and the Conrad Road gate will be closed to both pedestrians and bicycles on weekdays (Monday through Friday) for the remainder of August.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly and check for updates on construction progress at www.sjrwmd.com/meetings or by following the St. Johns River Water Management District on social media.
