What a year 2025 is turning out to be for Apopka athletes.

Then, on Monday night, Sam Alexis (an Apopka High basketball standout) and the Florida Gators won the 2025 NCAA National Championship.
Just call Apopka Title Town USA!
Alexis and the Gators rallied past the Houston Cougars Monday night 65-63 to claim their third championship in school history.

"We have a very capable team," said Alexis. "We trust each other, and we play together. I feel like that's what got us here today.
Alexis transferred from the University of Chattanooga in his junior year (2024). He played in 24 games for the Gators, scoring 112 points, grabbing 83 rebounds, blocking 15 shots, and adding nine assists.
As a senior at Apopka during the 2021-22 season, Alexis averaged 13.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. He was named to the first-team All-Metro Conference and second-team All-Central Florida. The Blue Darters went 19-9 that season.
