As the holiday season swings into full gear, communities across the country prepare for one special day that celebrates the heart of local commerce—Small Business Saturday. Nestled between the chaos of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this day offers an opportunity for shoppers to shift their focus to local shops and eateries. In Apopka, the importance of Small Business Saturday extends beyond shopping small; it’s an opportunity to fuel growth, build relationships, and strengthen the identity of our vibrant downtown.
The Backbone of the Community
Downtown Apopka, rich in culture and tradition, thrives on the efforts of its small business owners. From high-quality personal services to cozy cafes, artisan markets, and family restaurants, these businesses contribute significantly to the local economy and community fabric. Unlike large chain stores, local businesses often invest back into the community, creating jobs and supporting local initiatives. When you make a purchase from a small business, you’re not just buying a product—you’re supporting a dream, a family, and a community member.
How to Participate
This year, Main Street Apopka (MSA) has partnered with American Express to raise awareness for the “Shop Small” movement by launching an online campaign, highlighting the historic downtown Apopka district and encouraging folks to shop and support the small businesses located there.
Participating in Small Business Saturday is easier than ever. MSA encourages the residents of Apopka and visitors alike to share their shopping experience online using social media by checking in at the business (Facebook and Instagram), sharing a photo of your purchase, and tagging the Main Street Apopka page so we can cross-post it and continue to spread the word.
You can get involved by:
- “Checking In” to the business on social media: Use the “check-in” feature on social media or tag the business in a post.
- Posting a photo of your purchase: Having lunch? Drinking coffee? Getting your hair done? Take and post a photo!
- Tagging Main Street Apopka: Don’t forget to tag the MSA pages on Facebook - @mainstreetapk and on Instagram - @mainstreetapopka
- Using Hashtags: Hashtags like #ShopSmallApopka and #SmallBizSat will inspire others to join in.
For many small businesses, especially in the wake of economic challenges, every sale counts. Small Business Saturday is a reminder that the collective power of community support can drive resilience, innovation, and growth. When you choose to shop small in downtown Apopka, you’re casting a vote for the kind of community you want to live in—one that values connection, diversity, and support.
This year, make a meaningful impact by participating in Small Business Saturday and celebrating the entrepreneurs who make downtown Apopka a thriving, welcoming place. Every purchase, no matter how small, can create a ripple effect that strengthens our town's economy and solidifies Apopka's place as a destination worth investing in.
Join us on Small Business Saturday and make a difference that counts.
