The Apopka holiday season is in full force.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony opened the Apopka holiday season last Friday, while the Camp Wewa Holiday Movie Night is tonight, followed by the Christmas Parade and Holiday Pops on Saturday. These are the events Apopkans look forward to all year.
But perhaps the most heart-warming tradition in this community is the Apopka Shop with a Cop event that started this week.
Every holiday season, children get to go on a shopping spree with members of the Apopka Police Department, city commissioners, and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Each child receives a gift card for Christmas gifts to spend at the Apopka Walmart.
Shop with a Cop brings together APD officers and children in the community for a day of fun and bonding. It's designed to create positive interactions between law enforcement officers and children in the community... a way for officers to show children that they are there to help and protect them and to build trust and understanding between the two groups.

"Monday night kicked off the APD's 10 nights of SHOP WITH A COP 2023!
We hosted students from Lakeville Elementary School who were super excited to buy gifts for themselves while shopping with Apopka Police officers.
Thank you to the managers and staff at the Apopka Walmart for sponsoring our first night and for their generous donation for this event, as they do every year.
And congrats to Mayor Asher for being sworn in by Chief McKinley as an Honorary Officer!"
SHOP WITH A COP Night # 2 (Tuesday) was perfect! Our very stunning and proud Officer, Blue Santa, was making his rounds and continuing to bring cheer to the children! Dream Lake Elementary - OCPS was the chosen school of the night.
Shop with a Cop is held nightly for two weeks (December 4th-8th and December 11th-15th) at the Super Walmart, 1700 South Orange Blossom Trail, in Apopka.
