“Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service." In ancient India seva was believed to help one's spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community.
For Jai Bhandari the opening of a Seva Beauty franchise in Apopka is the fulfillment of years of wanting to have her own business. "Seva has made by dream possible," Bhandari said. "My goal is to bring beauty to the people."
Jai and her husband, Rakesh are the owners of the newest Seva franchise in Central Florida, which now has four Seva Beauty studios.
Members of the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Jai and Rakesh on Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The 200-unit franchise is based in Chicago. Twelve of the studios are in Florida.
The Seva salon chain was conceived by Vas Maniatis. The small salons focus on eyebrow threading, lash extensions and related services.
The original name was Simply Eyebrows and performed only eyebrow threading. Most threading takes place in malls at open-air kiosks; Maniatis hoped to improve the experience by offering a private session in a spa atmosphere.
The Apopka Seva Beauty studio is located in the Apopka Walmart at 1700 South Orange Blossom Trail.
