Senior Resource Alliance mailing at-home COVID-19 tests to seniors in need

Tests are available on first come, first served basis

Posted

As COVID-19 cases in Florida continue to rise, at-home tests have become scarce. To combat the surge in demand, Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) is mailing nearly 200 at-home testing kits to seniors in need, thanks to a donation from Community Health Centers of Central Florida. The QuickVue At-Home OTC COVID-19 Tests are available via mail on a first come, first-served basis. Seniors and caregivers can request a test by calling SRA at (407) 514-1800.

“We hope these tests help alleviate some of the stress and anxiety surrounding the current surge,” said Karla Radka, President and CEO of SRA. “If our seniors are able to test themselves at home, they can continue to protect themselves from exposure to the extremely contagious omicron variant.”

SRA is Central Florida’s Area Agency on Aging, serving seniors and adults with disabilities in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Brevard Counties. The nonprofit works with nine partner agencies in the four-county service area to facilitate programs, services and resources to those in need.

In addition to the at-home tests, SRA is currently offering the following vaccine-related services:

  • Dedicated counselors who can answer questions about vaccinations, provide information and help coordinate appointments for both initial doses and boosters.
  • Assistance in locating the nearest vaccination sites or facilitating at-home vaccinations.
  • Adult daycare and transportation services that allow caregivers to take the necessary time away to get vaccinated themselves and protect the elders in their care.
  • A telephone reassurance program that connects with seniors to ensure their wellbeing before and after their vaccination appointment(s).

If you or are a loved one are in need of assistance or interested in more information about SRA’s vaccine services, visit SeniorResourceAlliance.org/Vaccines or call SRA’s ELDER Helpline at (407) 514-1800.

Serving the community since 1995, The Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) is the Area Agency on Aging of Central Florida, which covers Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties. SRA works in partnership with nine partner agencies, including the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center, Aging Matters in Brevard, Brevard Alzheimer’s Association, Informed Families, Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc., Meals on Wheels, Etc., Seniors First, Share the Care and Osceola Council on Aging. The agency is the local resource for accessing the many services and programs of the state and federal government available to senior citizens, their caregivers and family members. SRA is also an objective clearinghouse for information and services offered by local, state and national organizations.
