The Rotary Club of Apopka, part of Rotary District 6980, will host a community service project on September 3 at 5:00 pm at First Methodist Church in Apopka to assemble 100 rescue backpacks for children and adults rescued from human trafficking across Central Florida.

Human trafficking remains one of the fastest-growing crimes in the region, and survivors often escape with no personal belongings, no access to basic necessities, and no immediate support system. In the critical first hours after rescue, law enforcement and victim-advocacy teams rely on emergency supplies to stabilize survivors, restore dignity, and meet urgent physical needs.

Rescue backpacks have become an essential tool in this response.

Meeting an Immediate, Human Need

Each backpack prepared by the Rotary Club of Apopka will include:

  • Clothing for children and adults, male and female
  • Health and hygiene items such as toiletries, grooming supplies, and personal-care  essentials
  • Comfort items that help reduce trauma during the initial recovery period

These backpacks will be distributed directly to Central Florida law enforcement agencies and partner organizations, ensuring they are available at the moment a victim is rescued.

A Community Effort with Lasting Impact

“Rescue backpacks provide survivors with dignity, comfort, and immediate care at a moment when they need it most,” said Rotary Club leadership. “This project reflects Rotary’s  commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and supporting the agencies working tirelessly  to combat human trafficking in our region.”

Rotary District 6980 has led anti-trafficking initiatives, partnering with frontline organizations to provide resources, awareness, and direct support. The Apopka club’s upcoming backpack-stuffing event continues this tradition of service and collaboration.

How the Community Can Participate

Local residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to join the effort by supporting  Rotary’s ongoing anti-trafficking initiatives. Community participation strengthens the safety net for survivors and enhances the capacity of law enforcement agencies responding to trafficking cases.
